Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralisation, Honourable Joseph Mathyola Mwanamvekha, on Wednesday met a Japanese Government delegation at Capital Hill in Lilongwe to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The delegation was led by Mr Takao Imafuku, Director-General for Africa, and included Japan’s Ambassador to Malawi, His Excellency Naito Yasushi.
During the courtesy call, the Japanese officials reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration with Malawi in trade, investment and infrastructure development.
They also pledged support for investment in the Nacala Corridor, Bakili Muluzi International Airport and the Kameza–Chileka Road project.
The delegation also urged the Malawi Government to expedite the re-submission of a formal request to the Japanese Government regarding the proposed projects.
In his response, Honourable Mwanamvekha expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support to Malawi, particularly in the roads, health and capacity-building sectors.
Other members of the delegation included Mr Misaki Egashira, Assistant Director-General for Africa, and Mr Seiji Tashiro, Chief of Mission and Foreign Service Officer in Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
